British Values

British Values – Intent, Implementation and Impact

Intent

At Park, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils from EYFS to Year 6 develop a deep understanding of British Values and learn to apply them meaningfully in their daily lives. Our intention is to nurture responsible, respectful and active citizens who understand their role within our school, our community and the wider world. We aim to equip children with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to uphold Democracy, the Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. Through this work, we aspire to develop confident learners who value diversity, embrace fairness and contribute positively to society.

Implementation

British Values are woven throughout our curriculum and school culture, beginning in the Early Years and building progressively through to Year 6. In EYFS, children learn through play-based experiences that encourage sharing, turn‑taking, listening to others and understanding right and wrong. As pupils move through the school, these values are explored more explicitly through PSHE, assemblies, RE, circle times, restorative conversations, wider curriculum links and real-life examples. Children take part in democratic processes such as voting for school councillors or contributing to class decisions. Clear behaviour expectations, alongside consistent routines, help pupils understand the importance of rules and fairness. Opportunities are created for children to express opinions safely, celebrate diversity, explore different beliefs and engage respectfully with views that may differ from their own.

Impact

By the time children leave Park, they demonstrate a strong understanding of British Values and show these consistently in their attitudes, behaviour and interactions. Pupils are able to articulate why these values matter and how they contribute to a caring, inclusive and safe school environment. They show empathy, respect and an appreciation of diversity, preparing them well for life in modern Britain. Evidence of this impact can be seen in pupils’ behaviour, participation in school life, contribution to the community and readiness for the next stage of their education. Ultimately, our children leave us as confident, thoughtful and responsible young citizens.
